Our Story

Where it started…

Roy and Rose Borrone started Cafe Borrone in 1979 on Broadway Street in Redwood City. Food had always been a cornerstone of appreciation in the family, and they set out on a mission to share that joy with the community.

After the Menlo Center was built in 1989, Roy made the decision to move — drawn by the promise of a large patio and seating area that could hold a bustling, casual atmosphere. All five of their children worked at the family restaurant, with Marina Borrone learning to run it at just 18 years old and soon orchestrating the entire operation at 23.

Cafe Borrone has grown to become an institution of Menlo Park — a place that, as regulars like to say, has developed its own heartbeat.
